AN INVITATION TO DIRTBAG PROM
WHO: Dirtbags, Outdoor Educators, Climbers, Backpackers, River Rats and Skiers 
WHAT: Prom. Put everyone’s name in a hat, and draw dates for the evening. The couples must dress up, using materials around camp (trash bags, bandanas, tarps, duct tape, p-cord, etc). The evening may include a costume contest, a faux formal dinner, in-costume bouldering, music and poi.
WHEN: Anytime. It’s great for rest days during climbing season, and on instructor trainings for outdoor education companies.
WHERE: Anywhere you can get a willing group of people together in the mountains or the desert. Suggested settings include:
- Campgrounds (Hidden Valley Campground in Joshua Tree is a great setting, or the group sites in Red Rocks)
- Canoe Expeditions
- Rafting Trips
- Backpacking Trips
- Post Climbing and Ski Trip Celebrations.
WHY: For fun, duh.
The photos posted here are from a prom hosted in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. The pre-party included several days of soaking in hot springs, cliff jumping, and lounging in canoes.
